Cosmetic procedures grew by 3% in 2013 compared to 2012

Over 15 million cosmetic procedures and minimally invasive surgeries were performed in 2013 in the United States on both men and women, a spike of 3% from the year before. This makes 2013 the fourth consecutive year that the number of these procedures has increased, new data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons showed.

Cosmetic procedures that saw their figures drop last year from previous years’ levels included liposuction, rhinoplasty, and laser hair removal. On the other hand, reconstructive surgeries increased, gaining a 2% increase from 2012 levels.

The most common of the 13.4 million minimally invasive procedures done in 2013 included 6.3 million Botox injections (up 3%), 2.2 million soft tissue filler procedures (up 13%), and 1.2 million chemical peels (up 3%).
