Cosmetic surgeons help disfigured burn victims in India

A team of volunteer cosmetic surgeons from Britain and a non-governmental organization in Delhi, India worked together on a project to treat individuals with disfigured body parts, an article of Mirror reported on April 20.

The British surgeons, along with former NHS medical practitioner and surgeon Dr. Charles Viva, were in Gurgaon for 12 days for “Project Revive” to treat disfigured victims for free. The team screened severe cases of disfigurement in different parts of India. Many of the disfigured patients were burn victims from dowry attacks or explosions. Dr. Viva stated the project aimed to help these injured individuals who often were left unable to function productively in society due to limitations of movement. Aside from the patients, the medical community was generally helped by the project, Dr. Viva also stated.
