How to Prepare for Your Waxing Service

How to Prepare for Your Waxing Service

Waxing is an effective method of hair removal with results that last much longer than shaving. Taking the proper steps to prepare for any type of waxing service helps ease the pain and maximize results. Before your next waxing appointment, be sure to follow these steps:

  • Check the Area – Make sure you do not have broken skin or open cuts or sores on the area you want waxed. Skin should be healthy and undamaged prior to your next appointment.
  • Grow out the Hair – In order for the wax to grab the hair for removal most effectively, it should be neither too short nor too long. Letting your hair grow for two or three weeks before your appointment allows the hair to reach the ideal 1/8 to 1/4 inch in length.
  • Exfoliate the Area – Using a gentle exfoliator before your appointment will allow the wax to stick more to your hair and less to the skin, which is more effective and far less painful.
  • Skip Retinol Products – If you are using retinol creams or other retinol products, waxing could injure the skin. Medications like Accutane make skin sensitive, so waxing can be dangerous. Stop using the product or medication for a month prior to the appointment to prepare the skin, but speak to your doctor before stopping medication use.
