A recently published study in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology showed that men’s noses are bigger than women’s due to the fact that the former need more oxygen inside their bodies than the latter because they have relatively bigger body masses.
Nathan Holton, an assistant professor at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and the study’s lead author, told the website LiveScience that nose size is often correlated with body mass, meaning the larger the body mass of a person is, the more oxygen he or she needs, thus leading to a larger nose.
Holton added that the size of noses decreased continually with the advent of smaller body masses in modern humans.
