Preparing for Plastic Surgery

Preparing for Plastic Surgery

When a person is considering plastic surgery, there are many different things that he or she must evaluate, from the possible alternatives to the length of recovery time necessary. However, once the individual decides to pursue a plastic surgery procedure, he or she must keep in mind some important preparations that can help prevent complications and discomfort before, during, and after the procedure. Although there are general preparations recommended for any surgical procedure, doctors may request that patients follow particular steps depending on the procedure itself.

How to Prepare for Plastic Surgery

A person may need to go through some more intensive preparations depending on the specific type of procedure he or she is having, but there are some basic preparations that often need to be followed the night before and day of a procedure. These include the following:

  • A patient shouldn’t eat or drink anything the day of or after midnight the night before surgery
  • The patient should not shave the area that is to be operated on
  • The patient should shower using an antibacterial soap
  • No moisturizer should be applied on the area being operated on
  • The patient should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes

Patients should consult with their plastic surgeons about other preparations that could improve their results or speed up the process of recovering from the procedure.
