A recent study revealed that children who are afflicted with facial paralysis may benefit from regular Botox cosmetic procedures, Medical Daily on March 5 reported.
The researchers studied 18 individuals aged 4 to 17 who have underwent Botulinum toxin A treatments for nine years. The procedure, according to the study, may restore patients’ smile symmetry. They saw the average individual improve their facial symmetry 61% . The study that was released in “JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery” suggested the Botox treatment was largely effective with no reported complications, but suggested more research be conducted to confirm long-term safety and effectiveness.
This study builds on the success of an earlier adult trial.
